Join our team!
Come join our team of scientists working on macroevolution and biodiversity
I am currently recruiting graduate students to join my lab at Clemson University. If you are interested in applying phylogenetic and/or fossil approaches to understanding the diversity of organismal forms, functions or species please contact me (sprice6@clemson.edu) I would love to chat with you! You can take advantage of existing datasets within the lab (fish body shape or mammal diet) to develop your own project and/or build your own dataset to work on any taxon (it doesn't even have to be a vertebrate!). If you are interested, I also actively encourage lab members to include lab or fieldwork components to complement the phylogenetic comparative approach. My mentoring is tailored to the needs of the individual, my mission is to help you to become an independent researcher and achieve your scientific and career goals, whatever they may be. I believe that a persons identity is integral to them as a scientist and as a mentor I am here to support you.
The department of Biological Sciences is home to several labs interested in phylogenetics and organismal form and function, providing many opportunities for collaboration and synergistic research (click here for more details). The unique Creative Inquiry (CI) program for undergraduate research provides opportunities for graduate students and postdocs to mentor undergraduate researchers and receive some money to support the research. The lab currently runs the 'FishShapes' CI and there are opportunities to develop your own.
Both MS and PhD degrees are available through the Department of Biological Sciences at Clemson University and will be supported through Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs). Deadline for application is Dec 1st 2022. We no longer require the GRE, for further information about the graduate program and admissions click here.
I don't have any postdoctoral funding currently available but if you are interested in writing a grant to allow you to conduct your postdoctoral research in the lab do get in touch!
Clemson is located in Upstate South Carolina, our campus is on the shores of Lake Hartwell and in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We are surrounded by lakes, waterfalls, providing abundant opportunities for hiking and nature watching. Also within a quick drive is the beautiful and thriving city of Greenville, while Atlanta and Charlotte are only ~2 hrs drive away.
